EAGLE-VAIL, CO (Dec. 15, 2015) – Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) starts on a road to recovery after tearing a ligament in her knee last weekend.

''I'm pretty positive right now. I'm not in any pain or anything,'' Shiffrin told the AP in an interview. ''I don't have a lot of swelling, so that's all a good sign. That makes me positive.''

Shiffrin tore the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee prior to the women’s Audi FIS World Cup race in Are, Sweden when she crashed during warm up. She also suffered a bone bruise. The 20-year-old defending World Cup slalom champion does not need surgery, just lots of rest.

''I'm lucky that I don't need surgery and I'm lucky that there are no other implications,'' Shiffrin said to the AP. ''It could've been really bad."
